In an emotive address squarely targeting Pakistan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said terrorism, trade, and talks cannot travel together, and reasserted that “blood and water can’t flow together.” This was said on a visit to Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir — an area which witnessed heavy cross-border shelling by Pakistan recently.

Amit Shah’s Strong Stand Against Pakistan
In the face of heightened tensions and a new round of Pakistani shelling from May 7–10, Shad did not mince words while addressing victims and BSF personnel during his two-day tour of Jammu:
“Terror, talks, and trade can’t go together. Blood and water won’t flow at the same time.”
His remarks came shortly after Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif offered peace talks and a possible resumption of the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), which India had put on hold following the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, including 25 tourists.
India’s Response: Operation Sindoor
In response to the brutal attacks, Shah revealed that the Indian Armed Forces launched “Operation Sindoor”, a precise and powerful counterattack that:
- Destroyed 118 Pakistani forward posts
- Targeted terrorist headquarters inside Pakistan
- Demolished enemy surveillance systems
“Pakistan used civilians as human shields. Our Army struck back with precision—targeting terror bases, not civilians,” said Shah.
He confirmed that nine Pakistani airbases and key military infrastructure were also damaged, dealing Pakistan a “massive blow that will take years to recover from.”
Visit to Shelling-Affected Sites and Religious Places
Shah visited multiple religious places — temples, mosques, and gurdwaras — that were damaged in the shelling, and met families of the civilians killed, including minor siblings who lost their lives in the attack.
“This is the worst shelling in Poonch since Independence,” Shah said.
Centre to Announce Relief Package
Shah assured the locals that the Centre will soon announce a comprehensive relief package for:
- Damaged homes
- Shattered businesses
- Religious places destroyed by shelling
He also distributed government job letters to next of kin of those killed, calling it a symbolic gesture of solidarity.
“No compensation can replace a life, but the entire nation stands with you like a rock” he added

Praise for the BSF: India’s First Line of Defence
Addressing BSF soldiers at their Khanetar unit in Poonch, the Home Minister lauded their heroism:
- “BSF dismantled Pakistan’s surveillance system piece by piece.”
- “Their intelligence helped us strike terror camps with precision.”
He praised the jawans’ readiness even in times of peace and highlighted their role in India’s defence strategy.
“Such bravery comes from patriotism, pride, and a willingness to sacrifice for the motherland.”
Development to Resume in J&K
Shah asserted that development initiated in 2014 under PM Modi would restart in full scale, and any abstruction will face a “powerful and appropriate reply.
He also reaffirmed the government’s plan to construct additional bunkers for civilian safety– more than 9500 have already been constructed at the border.

Shah’s Visit: A Symbol of Solidarity
Despite bad weather, Shah travelled by road to personally meet the jawans and citizens, showing the government’s commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“I wanted to visit each affected area, regardless of weather. God was gracious, and I had the chance to meet you all,” he said.
Final Word
Shah’s visit arrives at a time when national sentiment is running high following recent attacks. His message was clear as day:
India will not negotiate peace under the shadow of terror.
The Union Government, military personnel, and citizens together remain committed to safeguarding every inch of Indian land and backing every citizen who has suffered due to cross-border aggression.
