Ather Battery as a Service (BaaS): I’ve seen so many people hesitate before buying an electric scooter. They love the idea of silent, clean, modern rides, but the upfront cost makes them pause, and questions about resale value or battery life creep in. Honestly, I’ve felt the same when I’ve thought about switching. That’s why when I saw Ather’s new announcements, I couldn’t help but feel they’re finally tackling the exact pain points that keep people from making the EV leap.
Ather’s New Battery as a Service Model

Ather Energy has just shaken things up by introducing its Battery as a Service (BaaS) model for the family-friendly Rizta and the sporty 450 Series electric scooters. With BaaS, you don’t have to buy the battery upfront—you just pay for the scooter shell, which instantly drops the starting price. The Rizta now begins at ₹75,999, while the 450 Series starts at ₹84,341 (both ex-showroom, Lucknow).
Instead of owning the battery, customers can opt for flexible monthly usage plans starting at just ₹1 per kilometer. These plans are structured for a 48-month period with a minimum monthly usage of 1,000 km, making the pricing predictable and accessible. To sweeten the deal, Ather is also offering one year of free fast charging at over 3,300 Ather Grid points across India. For anyone worried about range or charging cost, that’s a huge relief.
Expanding the Assured Buyback Program
One of the biggest worries with electric scooters is their resale value in a rapidly changing market. Ather’s assured buyback programme, which started in February for a small group, is now open to more buyers. It promises up to 60% of the scooter’s value after three years, and up to 50% after four years, depending on how many kilometres you’ve clocked. This gives customers a clear picture of long-term ownership and removes that lingering uncertainty about whether their EV will hold value.
Extended Comprehensive Warranty for Peace of Mind
Ather has also rolled out an Extended Comprehensive Warranty (ECW) that goes beyond just covering the battery. It protects against manufacturing defects for the battery and 11 other critical components, including the motor, motor controller, dashboard, and charger. This coverage lasts for up to five years or 60,000 km, whichever comes first, and is available for all AtherStack Pro customers. For anyone planning to keep their scooter long-term, this is an added layer of security against surprise expenses.
Why This Matters for EV Adoption

I’ve always believed that if EV makers want more people to adopt electric mobility, they have to make the switch simple and worry-free. Ather’s BaaS model slashes the upfront cost by almost 30%, the buyback programme reassures you about resale value, and the extended warranty ensures you won’t be left with expensive repairs down the line. These changes are more than just marketing—they’re steps that directly address the reasons many people hold back from buying an EV.
Ravneet S Phokela, Ather’s Chief Business Officer, summed it up perfectly by saying they’re trying to unlock the segment’s true potential and cater to the different needs of customers. From where I’m standing, these moves make Ather’s scooters not just desirable, but practical for a whole new range of buyers.
