The Thug Life plot traces the violent and emotional trajectory of Rangaraaya Sakthivel, a mafia leader who, in a police encounter, picks up and brings up a boy named Amaran with his brother Manickam.
As time goes by, Amaran, acted by Silambarasan, becomes a strong figure in the underworld. Fate takes a twist to turn this father-son relationship into a lethal enmity when Sakthivel becomes suspicious of treachery from within. The suspenseful plot unravels a dark tale of faith, treason, family, and revenge, with the grimy background of the Tamil underworld.
Interestingly, the movie is loosely based on Kamal Haasan’s classic tale Amar Hai, reinterpreted by Mani Ratnam in his own tale-telling tradition.
